Karen Davis
Karen Davis grew up in Colorado. After graduating from high school
in 1999, she moved to Las Vegas, Nevada. After living in Las Vegas
for about a year, Karen enrolled in the Professional Massage Therapy
Program at NSMT , the Nevada Campus of the Utah College of Massage
Therapy Family of School. After a year long curriculum and a 4.0
grade point average, she graduated with honors in May of 2001. In
September of that same year, Karen interviewed with Steiner International
when they visited the Las Vegas campus for a recruiting event By
October she was offered a position aboard the cruise lines.
In December of 2001, Karen left for London, England to attend the
prestigious Steiner Training Academy. While there she had an opportunity
to work at the Elemis Day Spa, also owned by Steiner. There she
gained more experience to prepare her for her time on a cruise ship.
Her weekends were free and were spent visiting the sites, such
as, Big Ben, Parliament, St. Pauls Cathedral, London Bridge,
Tower Bridge and much more. After a two-week training course it
was off to Miami, Florida where she was assigned to the cruise ship
MS Carnival Pride. The ship had an Eastern and Western Caribbean
cruise route with stops in Key West, Belize, Cozumel, Progresso,
Bahamas, St. Thomas, and St. Martin. She had also visited San Juan,
Puerto Rico twice while there.
"Traveling and meeting people from all over the world was
the best part", Karen says. "In the spa I worked with
people from South Africa, Canada, Ireland, England, the Czech Republic,
Germany, Jamaica, Portugal, Slovakia, and Australia." Karen
worked 12 hours a day 6 days a week. She says, "Trust me, on
that one day off we really tried to play. Hard work was a must and
we had little sleep." Karens tour was 8 months long.
She signed off on August 24th, 2002. She has since then spent time
in Colorado and 5 weeks in South Africa with her boyfriend Johann
Pretorius, a native of South Africa who she met on the ship. Karen
is now back in Colorado awaiting her next assignment with Steiner.
