Karen Davis

Karen Davis grew up in Colorado. After graduating from high school in 1999, she moved to Las Vegas, Nevada. After living in Las Vegas for about a year, Karen enrolled in the Professional Massage Therapy Program at NSMT , the Nevada Campus of the Utah College of Massage Therapy Family of School. After a year long curriculum and a 4.0 grade point average, she graduated with honors in May of 2001. In September of that same year, Karen interviewed with Steiner International when they visited the Las Vegas campus for a recruiting event By October she was offered a position aboard the cruise lines.

In December of 2001, Karen left for London, England to attend the prestigious Steiner Training Academy. While there she had an opportunity to work at the Elemis Day Spa, also owned by Steiner. There she gained more experience to prepare her for her time on a cruise ship.

Her weekends were free and were spent visiting the sites, such as, Big Ben, Parliament, St. Paul’s Cathedral, London Bridge, Tower Bridge and much more. After a two-week training course it was off to Miami, Florida where she was assigned to the cruise ship MS Carnival Pride. The ship had an Eastern and Western Caribbean cruise route with stops in Key West, Belize, Cozumel, Progresso, Bahamas, St. Thomas, and St. Martin. She had also visited San Juan, Puerto Rico twice while there.

"Traveling and meeting people from all over the world was the best part", Karen says. "In the spa I worked with people from South Africa, Canada, Ireland, England, the Czech Republic, Germany, Jamaica, Portugal, Slovakia, and Australia." Karen worked 12 hours a day 6 days a week. She says, "Trust me, on that one day off we really tried to play. Hard work was a must and we had little sleep." Karen’s tour was 8 months long. She signed off on August 24th, 2002. She has since then spent time in Colorado and 5 weeks in South Africa with her boyfriend Johann Pretorius, a native of South Africa who she met on the ship. Karen is now back in Colorado awaiting her next assignment with Steiner.
